Kashi Vishwanath नहीं। Somnath भी नहीं। Kedarnath भी नहीं।
Tungnath — 3,680 meters (12,073 ft) पर। Uttarakhand के Rudraprayag district में, Chopta से सिर्फ 3.5 km की trek।
और सबसे interesting बात — यह temple उतना famous नहीं है जितना Kedarnath, फिर भी 1000+ साल पुराना है, Panch Kedar का हिस्सा है, और बहुत कम efforts में visit किया जा सकता है।
अगर Kedarnath बहुत ambitious लग रहा है — 16 km trek, altitude sickness, crowds — तो Tungnath उसी spiritual family का एक gentle सा entry point है।

- Location: Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand

Chopta से Tungnath trek को "India का सबसे beautiful short trek" कई लोग कहते हैं — और वो ग़लत नहीं हैं।
2026 में Tungnath कब खुलेगा?
Verified (BKTC official): Tungnath Temple ke kapat 2 May 2026 (Shanivaar), subah 6 बजे खुलेंगे — Vaishakh Panchami tithi के according।
Deity — Baba Tungnath — को 1 May 2026 को Makkumath (winter abode) से शोभा यात्रा ke sath Tungnath लाया जाएगा। 2 मई को vidhi-vidhan se Pooja होकर darshan शुरू होंगे।
Source: Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) — badrinath-kedarnath.gov.in। Travel से पहले official notification confirm करो, weather/BRO advisory के हिसाब से dates cancel हो सकते हैं।
Closing: Around early November 2026 (Bhai Dooj के आसपास)। Winter में deity Makkumath village ले जाते हैं — वहां year-round darshan।
Trek — Chopta से Tungnath
Route
Chopta → 3.5 km uphill paved path → Tungnath Temple → +1.5 km steep climb → Chandrashila summit
Difficulty
- Chopta to Tungnath: Moderate। 2–3 hours। Well-paved stone steps, तो proper trekking शूज़ न भी हों तो walking shoes में हो सकता है। लेकिन altitude 3,680m है — AMS का risk रहता है।
- Tungnath to Chandrashila: Steep + rocky। 45 min उपर। Last stretch में snow होता है April–May में। Trekking poles काम आते हैं।
Best time
- April-May: Cold, clearer days, snow patches अभी भी
- June: Lush green, perfect weather, rhododendrons (बुरांस) खिले हुए
- July-Sept: Monsoon — trail slippery, views foggy (avoid for trek, temple open)
- Oct-Nov: Clear skies, cold, best Himalaya views
- Dec-Mar: Heavy snow, experienced trekkers only with guide
एक honest observation
ज़्यादातर blogs कहते हैं "easy family trek" — लेकिन 2,680m से 3,680m की climb 3.5 km में है, जो moderate है, easy नहीं। अगर आप sea-level से गए हैं तो Chopta में 1 रात रुको body adjust के लिए, फिर next morning trek करो।
Chopta तक कैसे पहुंचें?
Chopta connect नहीं है by train/plane — road से जाना होगा।

Chandrashila — 4,000m का summit
Tungnath के बाद अगर energy बची है — Chandrashila जाओ।

"Chandrashila" = चंद्र-शिला = "Moon Rock"। कहा जाता है Chandra (चंद्र देव) ने यहां meditation की श्राप से मुक्त होने के लिए। कुछ कथाओं में — Ram ने Ravana-वध के बाद यहां प्रायश्चित किया।
Panch Kedar में Tungnath का स्थान
Panch Kedar की Mahabharata कथा में, Pandavas ने Shiva की शरण चाही — Kurukshetra में अपने भाइयों और Brahmins को मार-कर हुए पाप से मुक्ति के लिए।
Shiva ने bull का रूप लिया और धरती में समा गए। उनके अलग-अलग हिस्से अलग जगहों पर emerge हुए:
- Kedarnath: कूबड़ (hump)
- Madhyamaheshwar: नाभि (navel)
- Tungnath: भुजाएं (arms)
- Rudranath: मुख (face)
- Kalpeshwar: जटा (hair)
Pandavas ने हर जगह temple बनवाए। Tungnath का मतलब है "Tung (ऊंचे) का Nath (स्वामी)" — ऊंचाइयों के भगवान।

Tungnath की altitude Kedarnath से भी ज़्यादा है (3,680 vs 3,583)। AMS का real risk है, especially अगर Delhi/Mumbai से direct drive करके आए हो।

- Chopta में 1 रात acclimatize करो
- पानी + ORS consistently
- Alcohol बिलकुल नहीं पहली रात
- Diamox pre-trip से (doctor's advice)
