Vipassana — Pali shabd jiska arth hai 'jaisa hai vaisa dekhna' (insight) — Buddhist meditation parampara hai jo 2500 saal pehle Gautam Buddha ne sikhayi thi. Bharat mein yeh sadhana sadiyon tak lupt rahi par Burma (Myanmar) mein bhikshuon ne preserve ki. 20th century mein Sayagyi U Ba Khin ji ne grihasth shishyon ke liye 10-day intensive format develop kiya — taaki kisi ko bhi sanyas liye bina yeh practice mil sake.

S.N. Goenka ji unke pratham bharatiya shishya the. 14 saal Sayagyi ke saath sadhana karne ke baad, 1969 mein unhe authorization mila aur woh Mumbai chale aaye — apne maa-baap ki bimari ke saath. Pehla course unhone Bombay mein conduct kiya. Yahin se Vipassana ka modern revival shuru hua. 1985 mein Igatpuri (Maharashtra) mein Dhamma Giri par Vipassana Research Institute ki sthaapna ki — yeh aaj duniya ka sabse bada Vipassana center hai.

10-day course ka structure precise hai. Day 0: arrival, registration, Noble Silence shuru. Day 1-3: Anapana — sirf saans ki natural flow par focus, naasa-randhron par. Daily schedule kathin hai — 4:00 AM uthna, 4:30 to 6:30 group meditation, 8 hours total meditation, sirf vegetarian sattvic food, no dinner (5 PM ke baad sirf tea/fruit), complete silence — koi baat nahi, koi gesture nahi, koi reading nahi, koi writing nahi. Sirf assistant teacher se private questions puch sakte ho. Phone, watch, kitabein — sab depository mein.

Goenka ji ki Hindi discourses ka apna alag charm hai. Unke dohe — 'jaagat rehna, jaagat rehna, samay anityata ka, gunjta rehna' — sirf 10 din nahi, jeevan bhar yaad rehte hain. Goenka ji ne Vipassana ko purely secular technique ke roop mein present kiya — Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Atheist sabke liye. Yeh dharm-convert nahi, dukh-mukti ka rasta hai. Iss seculer approach ne IIM students, ISRO scientists, IAS officers, businessmen, aur Tihar Jail ke kaidiyon tak ko attract kiya.

Satya Narayan Goenka ji Bhartiya moolnivasi Burma mein paida hue. Yuvavastha mein severe migraine ne unhe spiritual khoj par dhakela — 1955 mein Burma ke sant Sayagyi U Ba Khin ji ke shishya bane aur 14 saal Vipassana sadhana ki. 1969 mein Sayagyi ne unhe Vipassana sikhane ka adhikar diya. Goenka ji India laute aur 10-day silent meditation courses ki Bhartiya version shuru ki. Iss technique ko 2500 saal baad Bhartiya bhumi par revive karne ka shrey unhe jaata hai. 1985 mein Igatpuri mein Dhamma Giri par Vipassana Research Institute ki sthapna ki. Aaj duniya bhar mein 1,350+ assistant teachers aur 200+ centers chal rahe hain — saare donation aur volunteer-based, paise nahi liye jaate. Anityata — sab kuch badal raha hai

Vipassana ka mool teaching — har sensation, har vichar, har emotion arises and passes. Sansaar ka shashvat niyam anityata hai. Iss truth ko direct experience karne se attachment aur aversion dono kam hote hain. Yeh Buddha ka pehla insight hai.

Anapana — saans par sirf observation

Pehle 3 din ki sadhana. Naak ke neeche, upar hoth par hawa ki natural sensation observe karte ho. Saans ko control nahi karna — sirf dekhna. Yahin se attention ki sharpness develop hoti hai jo aage Vipassana ke liye chahiye.

Body sweep — har sensation ka direct experience

Day 4 se shuru. Sir ke upar se paer ki ungliyon tak, har inch ke sharir ko methodical attention dete ho — gross sensations (dard, khujli) aur subtle sensations (vibrations, flow) ko observe karte ho without reaction. Yahi Vipassana hai.

Equanimity — sukh-dukh mein samanta

Sensations ko like-dislike nahi karna. Painful ko door karne ki ichha nahi, pleasant ko pakadne ki ichha nahi. Sirf observe karna. Iss equanimity se reactive patterns (sankhar) dheere-dheere ghulte hain. Yahi gehri sadhana ka phal hai.

Noble Silence — 9 din ka maun

Pehle 9 din complete silence — koi baat nahi, no eye contact, no gesture. Yeh isliye nahi ki baatein buri hain, par yeh ki bahar ka shor andar ki sadhana ko disturb karta hai. Pehli baar sadhakon ko mann ki asli halat dikhti hai bina distractions ke.

Metta Bhavna — sabhi prani sukhi rahein

Day 10 ki antim sadhana. 9 din ke deep work ke baad sadhak metta develop karta hai — sabhi praniyon ke prati love aur compassion. 'Sabka mangal ho, sab sukhi rahein, sab nirog rahein.' Yeh apni purification ka karuna ke roop mein bahar sharing hai.
