Concept: Aap deliberately apni anxiety-trigger ko face karte hain (Exposure) bina apni usual compulsion karke (Response Prevention). Brain ko sikhata hai ki anxiety naturally chali jaati hai bina ritual ke. Yeh tough hai — initial sessions mein anxiety badhti hai. Lekin gradual repeat se woh same trigger ki intensity halki ho jaati hai.
Example flow: Aapko contamination OCD hai. ERP therapist aapko ek surface touch karne kahega bina haath dhoye. Aap karte hain. Anxiety spike karti hai 9/10 par. Aap haath nahi dhote. Therapist help karta hai sit through karne mein. 20-30 min mein anxiety naturally 4/5 pe aati hai. Aapne sikha — "anxiety mujhe maarta nahi hai, woh khud chali jaati hai." Repeat over weeks, brain rewires.
Results: ~80% patients significant reduction dekhte hain 8-16 weeks mein. Honest disclaimer: ~35% ko substantial change nahi milta; ~50% full remission tak nahi pohonchte. ERP works for majority, but not magic.
